Baggage

Passengers who are checking baggage or a bicycle should arrive 45 minutes prior to their scheduled departure time.

Photo IDs & Baggage Tags

All passengers on board the train must show valid photo identification upon request from appropriate Amtrak staff.

Baggage identification tags are available at the stations and should be completed and placed on all luggage, including carry-ons before boarding the train.

Carry-on Baggage

From any station in North Carolina, passengers may carry two pieces of luggage aboard trains, not including purses, laptops, strollers, etc. Bags may not weigh more than 50 pounds each and may not exceed a size of 28 x 22 x 14 inches. Passengers must be able to safely carry their own baggage.

Starting Nov. 1, 2023, customers will be permitted to bring only one personal item free of charge instead of two personal items. Personal items are up to 25 lbs. and 14 x 11 x 7 inches each.

Checked Baggage

Checked baggage service is available at Charlotte, Greensboro, Durham, Cary, Raleigh, Wilson, Rocky Mount and is limited to two pieces up to 50 pounds each. Passengers may check two additional pieces of baggage per person at a cost of $20 each.

There is no checked baggage service at Kannapolis, Salisbury, High Point, Burlington and Selma.

If you are planning to check baggage, be sure checked baggage service is available at both your origin and destination station.
